We provide Life Skills Dynamic Meditation Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention without cost and share our expertise in running public awareness campaigns to guide new volunteers.

In India, it is a challenging task to start a suicide prevention campaign due to the social stigma attached to mental health and suicide. When we come together as NSPF, we can set a national example of mental health awareness that inspires people to seek help and consult mental health professionals to overcome depression, anxiety, and related disorders.

Our second and most important aim is to promote the development of a National Suicide Prevention Strategy in India — by appealing to the Government and raising awareness in the public domain. Over the years, we have communicated with the Government on this matter and received encouraging responses Dr.Sharma has also achieved formal recognition for World Suicide Prevention Day In India(this is described in news bulletin - published by International Association for Suicide Prevention).

Devjyoti Sharma's appeal to the Prime Minister and President of India for the development and implementation of a national suicide prevention strategy in the country was forwarded to the Secretary of Government of India for action. This indicates the high political priority that is now being given to suicide prevention in the country. Dan Reidenberg is also supporting efforts to build on the momentum which has been implicated by the government of India in 2022.

We aim to create a common platform for nationwide discussion on the urgent need for the National Suicide Prevention Strategy. The World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva, published a guidebook titled “National Suicide Prevention Strategies — Progress, Examples and Indicators”, where the name of Dr. Pandit Devjyoti Sharma was acknowledged for reviewing the publication.

Thus, we are morally bound to spread the message that Suicide is Effectively Preventable by the development and implementation of a national prevention strategy. More than one lakh people die by suicide each year in India — around 70% being young and middle-aged individuals.

Implementing a National Suicide Prevention Strategy is essential to save the lives of our citizens, especially youth. Let us unite under NSPF to take social leadership in our cities, districts, and states to address the major public health issue of our country — suicide.
